OVERVIEW

El Servicio de Rentas Internas (IRS, por sus siglas en inglés) considera a las compensaciones por desempleo como un ingreso gravable sobre el que debes informar en tu declaración de impuestos. Las divisiones estatales de desempleo emiten un Formulario 1099-G del IRS para cada individuo que recibe beneficios por desempleo a lo largo del año.

Si has recibido beneficios por desempleo este año puedes estar seguro de que recibirás un Formulario 1099-G utilizado para "Algunos pagos gubernamentales", que lista el monto total de la compensación que has recibido. El IRS considera a las compensaciones por desempleo como un ingreso gravable sobre el que debes informar en tu declaración de impuestos. Algunos estados también consideran las prestaciones por desempleo como ingresos gravables.


Acerca de la compensación por desempleo

La compensación por desempleo es una forma de asistencia monetaria provista por el gobierno federal y el estatal para las personas que no poseen un empleo. Estos beneficios suelen estar sostenidos por los impuestos pagados por los empleadores a nivel federal y estatal.

Generalmente, los empleados que son despedidos o aquéllos que pierden su trabajo por razones ajenas a ellos califican para obtener beneficios por desempleo. El monto de la compensación que reciben depende de la cantidad de tiempo trabajado, sus ingresos y el beneficio máximo que su estado permite. Los contribuyentes que quieren recibir compensación por desempleo deben presentar una solicitud a través de sus programas estatales.

Formulario 1099-G

Las divisiones estatales de desempleo emiten un Formulario 1099-G del IRS para cada individuo que recibe beneficios por desempleo durante el año. En este formulario verás el monto total de tu compensación declarados en el Campo 1.

Cuando recibes beneficios puedes optar por hacer que tus impuestos federales y estatales sean deducidos de la compensación para evitar deber una gran cantidad de impuestos en tu declaración de impuestos. Si decides hacer que tu impuesto por ingresos sea deducido de tus beneficios, el total de los impuestos federales deducidos aparecerá en el Campo 4, mientras que los impuestos estatales deducidos aparecerán en el Campo 11.

Debes declarar sobre tu compensación por desempleo en tu declaración de impuestos federal en la sección de ingresos. El monto aparecerá en una línea específica en tu formulario de impuestos.
