OVERVIEW

Si no pagas tus impuestos cuando están vencidos, la deuda no desaparece. Incluso puede crecer, ya que acumula intereses y multas cada mes que sigue pendiente el pago. El IRS (siglas en inglés de Servicio de Impuestos Internos) continuará intentando cobrar el impuesto que debes, pero pueden estar dispuestos a perdonar o reducir los recargos si se puede demostrar que tienes un buen motivo.


Paso 1: Busca una reducción

Comprueba si tus circunstancias podrían darte derecho a una reducción. El IRS puede considerar perdonar las sanciones si tus razones para no pagar a tiempo se deben a circunstancias fuera de tu control, tales como una muerte en la familia, enfermedad, cárcel, un huracán o la destrucción de tus registros. Sin embargo, si tu única razón para no pagar es que no tienes fondos suficientes, el IRS no va a renunciar a las sanciones, ya que te hacen responsable de ahorrar dinero para los impuestos. Paso 2: Reúne tus pruebas
