At every possible opportunity, turboTax will charge you more for their service, constantly throwing upgrades in your face. They force you to upgrade even if you had losses on investments to report those. That's very frustrating. They also charge $40 to pay from the refund. So they like to bait people saying it's "free" to file, but with very common situations they force ou to upgrade. It was $119 forced to upgrade, $59 for state taxes, and then $40 to use our refund to pay for the things they forced. They took half of our refund. Enjoy our money, Turbo. We won't be using you again.

A simple tax return is one that's filed using IRS Form 1040 only, without having to attach any forms or schedules. Only certain taxpayers are eligible.
