So, I tried the online version. Not quite as convenient, but it was easier that I thought. It suggested that I take the standard deduction, but it turned out better to itemize.

Rated 2 out of 5 by C_Unfair from Easy to do, but has more than doubled in price! I have always used Turbo Tax to file my own taxes except 2 years where it was more complicated. I have always paid between $50-$75 for the product with the option of $25 to e-file state. Now there is no option, you have to pay $60 for state and $119 for federal, and this is doing your own taxes. A hired professional is near the same $178 I paid. Disappointing, especially for being a loyal customer.

A simple tax return is one that's filed using IRS Form 1040 only, without having to attach any forms or schedules. Only certain taxpayers are eligible.
