What if I'm not sure if I need to file a tax return?
You’re only required to file a tax return if you made over a certain income in 2019 and did not file a return in 2018. For single taxpayers under 65, the cutoff is $12,200, and for married couples filing jointly, it’s $24,400. It’s higher for people 65 and older, as well as those who qualify as head of household. Who is eligible to receive a
Tax filers with an adjusted gross income (AGI) up to $75,000 for individuals, $112,500 for heads of household and up to $150,000 for married couples filing joint returns will receive $1,200 per individual, plus $500 per qualifying child. For filers with income above those amounts, the payment amount is reduced by $5 for each $100 above the $75,000/$112,500/$150,000 thresholds. Single filers with income exceeding $99,000 and $198,000 for joint filers with no children are not eligible. A Social Security number is required to receive a stimulus check. If you’ve been claimed as a dependent on someone else’s 2019 tax return, you aren’t eligible to receive a stimulus payment.

- Confirm your payment type: direct deposit or check
- Enter your bank account information if it's not already on file
What if I filed my taxes this year and owed money?
If you had a balance due this year, the IRS will mail a paper stimulus check to the address on your 2019 return, unless you were sent a refund by direct deposit in 2018, in which case your stimulus payment will be sent to
