Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good help but software glitch The past two years I received a stipend from hospital residency under 1099. Without live assisted premium there was NO way I could have figured out how to click the right options to fill out the 1099-MISC without claiming that I'm not a business owner nor self employed. The help itself was great but I think the point of regular plan for turbotax is to be user friendly and customizable to a common situation for professionals receiving 1099 without being necessarily self employed. It made me feel like I actually had to pay for live premium to figure out how to use the software. The people I spoke with for help were nice but they also had trouble figuring this out

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Software glitches, unnecessary charges...not good TurboTax misread one of my uploaded tax documents, putting an incorrect Payer's Address in one of the forms. The software then noticed the error doing the final check when the zip code didn't correspond to the correct state. It then prompted me to correct the zip code. However, the zip code was correct, but the state was not. Unfortunately, it would not let me fix the state. I tried getting an online chat assistant to help me, but after about 10 failed attempts to share my screen with her, she gave up. I ended up fixing the problem myself by deleting the tax form and re-entering it by hand. However, this experience, plus the fact that I was charged $205 for TurboTax Small business when I don't own or have a small business, has made me decide that after many years of using TurboTax, I've had enough. I even noticed that I have been automatically charged for downloading TurboTax software when I have been instead using (and paying for) the online versions for at least the last two years. I blame myself for not noticing that, but getting double-billed, paying for a much more expensive software version I don't need, not being able to make simple changes to tax documents due to software limitations, and then paying for online assistance only to have that not work either. . . well, that's just too much. The only reason that I didn't give this a one-star rating is that I did eventually complete my taxes using the software, and it only took me about twice as long as the software predicted it would.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from hidden add-onns your website said the state was covered under a package and yet i get charged to file which is very misleading. I ended up paying close to 200 for my returns. Its electronic no person helped me in person the pricing is crazy. I had a simple return and followed promtps. It doesnt say hay if you do this it bumps your tax service fee. I would like to be rembursed the 60 i had to pay for state on top of the priemum service i had to pay that said it coverd state.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from WAYYY Better Than HR Block for Business I had finally had it with HR Block for Business. We have a mom & pop LLC. The last couple of years, we've had losses. 2023 should be better, but the agony of using HR Block for business was excruciating. Asking questions as if we were tax professionals! VERY un-user friendly. All the laws and regulations I had to look up - and if I'd already reported something elsewhere, HR Block for Business either ignored it (causing double-reporting) or went into a laundry list of ERRORS or WARNINGS or CAUTIONS... TurboTax Business was quite different. Conversational. More importantly, if an entry was made elsewhere, very soon after entering a possible duplicate entry, TT4B would at least pop up and say something to the effect of, "Are you sure... You already... etc." Much, much better experience and worth the extra cost. Gave me confidence that I could still handle my business and personal taxes at home.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Product itself is good Product itself was good. I last used turbotax >10 years ago as the standalone PC version. Many many improvements since then. It is not without annoyances though - the verbiage of all the deductions you "deserve" infuriates me. As i'm about to be royally screwed by the government, the language should be neutral like "are legally entitled to claim".
