Rated 5 out of 5 by from Why do I get emails mentioning a refund? It always bugs me getting messages about getting the "maximum refund". It's like you assume I'm foolish enough to overpay my taxes. I never do.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed I have been a loyal TurboTax customer for the past 8 years. I usually file it online. This year, I found that Costco had a deal on TurboTax so I elected to buy it there instead of online. It was not made clear that the online version and the one you buy at Costco are very different. I was not able to use the code from the Costco TurboTax to reactivate my online TurboTax. Because of that, I was unable to pull in a lot of the information that I usually have been able to. I had to spend a lot longer entering everything in manually.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reliable, but UX leaves a lot to be desired Pros: - Reliable. - Best of the lot of DIY tax software. Cons: - UX sucks (And the same issues persist year over year). - Worst part is fetching info from external financial institutions such as Morgan Stanley or Etrade. Repeatedly fails with no meaningful into (Cannot connect, login incorrect etc. which dont make sense, as I can log into those financial institutions via Mint or on their site directly with the same credentials). I can understand if the issue is on the partner's end, but since you are offering this functionality on your site, you should get your act together or get your partners to fix their issues. - So direct connection with those sites fails, but I dont get the option to upload documents (e.g. for 1099-B, the only options I have is to "Connect account"- which never seems to work for me), or "enter manually"!!! Where did the upload / snap a picture option go? Why is it not even provided as an option (Or at least an explanation as to why it was not provided as an option). - Performance - You need to realy get your act together on page load and update speed. Editing any section takes seconds. - Related to the above, and because performance is an issue this one is a huge pain point: When you show summary of Income info - Can you show more details such as whose account (B/w husband and wife in case of a joint return) this is tied to. I only see the numbers (Income, Federal taxes deducted etc.) and to verify if the right name is being used against those line items I need to click into the edit experience and go through 3-5 steps depending on which type of investment I wanted to review. Just to review something (With no real intent to edit, unless info was wrong), this seems a crazy waste of time. Ideally I should see the info on the summary page, and be able to edit it in place, without having to go into the freaking edit detail, each step of which seems to take seconds! If not that, at least showing more exhaustive summaries can help minimize the number of times the user may need to edit (Only when info needs to be corrected), because editing is so costly from a time perspective. - You have info on my properties such as vehicle owned etc. from Mint. Is it too much to ask you to bring in expenses such as "registration fees" directly based on that (At least make a guesstimate based on make and model. Show it on summary and give an easy option to edit if this info is inaccurate)? - (To be fair, this one is way above and beyond what you currently do, but would be a delighter). My mortgage payments and property taxes - Can this not be fetched directly from my financial institution (Based on info available in Mint). Year after year, I maintain and keep reasonably up to date info in Mint, with the hope that one fine year, everything flows automatically into TT! That said, I understand the complexities involved in building something like this, so not judging TT too harshly based on this. Only because I remember Brad Smith (Ex CEO), mentioning a decade ago "Minimized data entry is better than full data entry; But 'No data entry' is the best / northstar from a user experience perspective, and Intuit wants to get there".
