Rated 3 out of 5 by ICRB from Expensive As I recently discovered, Turbo Tax and the other tax software companies raise the prices of their software as tax date gets closer. In one week I watched the price for this software jump from $65 to $88. There is absolutely no reason for this except to make additional profit. Also, for a lousy $600 1099 DIV I had to pay to upgrade from the Regular software to the very more expensive Premier software with absolutely ZERO benefit. It just allowed me to fill in the numbers on a form that isn't available in the standard version. It neither increased nor decreased my return.

I had a hard time trying to figure out how to just print the State return with instructions so I could mail it in. It is just not worth $25 to e-file the State and it seems TurboTax it trying to force me to e-file the State return.

A simple tax return is one that's filed using IRS Form 1040 only, without having to attach any forms or schedules. Only certain taxpayers are eligible.
