Not only is there a nearly $40 processing fee for your refund, but I made $20 on crypto, which necessitated an addition of Schedule-D. Because of the additional schedule, I had to buy TurboTax premium and pay an additional roughly $50 for state filing. Quick way to turn a measly $20 profit into a nearly $150 loss.

A simple tax return is one that's filed using IRS Form 1040 only, without having to attach any forms or schedules. Only certain taxpayers are eligible.
