Easy to use but getting more expensive every year
Our experience was a good one again this year. Just wish it was a bit less expensive for us seniors on fixed incomes... but then everything is more costly.

Second time with Turbo Tax
The importing of financial documents is not a seamless process, so I had to bring in the experts to guide me through it, but they were thorough and patient, so it was fairly painless.

Price is good. User experience is still poor.
Too much reliance on the user to understand the complexities of the tax code. Descriptions of deductions and special circumstances are just vague enough to make the $100+ upcharge for 'premium services' seem reasonable. In reality, it is a thinly veiled attempt to prey on the anxiety of the average person to dupe them into spending more money on an average service.

I had to file in multiple states this year because of travel work that i performed. I come from a state that doesn't have state taxes and was overwhelmed with the process. Kimberli was very helpful to me in understanding how to file my taxes. I explained my situation and shared my screen with her so that she could make the process easier.

TurboTax - overall great experience!
TurboTax keeps getting better year by year -- this year most of my documents were available for upload directly (W-2, Dividends), which saved a lot of typing. One hiccup with a mix-up with QR capture that got my date wrong. Had to reenter to complete filing. But - one hiccup in 8 years is pretty awesome

Issue with payment
Everthing went fine up until I tried to pay. Turbo tax would not let me log into my account. When I tried to pay as a guest, I got to input my billing information but there was no way to continue on to input payment information. I selected to pay by phone and the customer service representative Lady was very helpful in getting me past the point at which I was stuck.

Difficult Process Compared to Previous Years
We had a $750 payment from a movie production on our block. There was no way to just report this income. The system kept trying to tell me I had to itemize expenses. What expenses, they just sent us a check for filming on our block. This was just one example where Turbo Tax made me walk through many unneeded steps.

Software is worse than ever!
Why is TurboTax so much more buggy this year than ever? Recommends import, and then imported blank W2. After correcting the blank info, it created 2 versions of the same W2 and charged me 3 times the correct taxes. Hard to fix! It never asked Schedule C questions, but then flagged errors with cryptic information to fill in random stuff I had to google. I couldn't even use my account to pay for state. It says try again. I had to log in as guest. I had always given high reviews in the past. Software totally sucks this year!
