Rated 4 out of 5 by from Taxes R easy with TT but $25 extra to upload State As usual, I prepare my taxes with Turbo Tax. Easy to use and reasonable software pricing. I will never understand why it costs an extra $25 to upload a state return. Yes, I know I can print it out and mail it but costing $25 to upload? Why not $5? Why not $0?

Rated 2 out of 5 by from As an independent contractor... (1099 filer) As someone who's been filing as an "independent contractor" for the last few years (and therefore had to minimally file under the "Premium" package by default) I may start using other services to file in coming tax years. As an independent contractor you're already highly likely to have to PAY BACK TAXES to the IRS at the the end of the year instead of receiving any return, so it doesn't make sense to charge those people even more initially just to file. in my case- I just gave almost all of my (smaller) return away this year just to pay (over $210) to simply proceed to personally fill out and send in my tax return step by step all by myself. Something I do for free most other places. There were three separate fees this year, and it seems each year they are adding more, for not much product return (I'm PAYING a party to sit and tediously file all by myself??? if I was paying to "not do your taxes" like the tv commercial states, a fee would make sense (so maybe the small fee does for simple W-2 filing). My FEES included- 1) initial "premium" package cost, 2)fee for filing BOTH state and federal? and 3) another $40 fee just to *choose* to take the cost of prior "services" from my return, out of their company owned INTUIT (Credit Karma) account? Ill do the same amount of work to file for free next year and maybe get some of my return back instead of handing it to a third party service, not offering much service. If I wanted live help it oddly would have been more additional costs over the "PREMIUM" service package.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No More Turbo Tax for ME! I have used Turbo Tax for years but this year I paid for the disc at Costco and then I had to pay an additional fee for the state return? My friend used a free tax service and then had to pay less than I did for the state! I will be going with the free website next year!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Time Filing Separately... The Turbotax platform is very user-friendly so it made my first time experience easy and relaxed. I also appreciated the explanations of what was required in each box. Filing taxes alone is a tedious process but TurboTax made it enjoyable!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Charged me for Premium services without my consent TurboTax is mostly great; however, I did not want to pay $178 to file my taxes when all I did was put in my W-2s. This was upsetting. The call center person was kind and helpful. I think you should be more explicit when you are charging people and let them know how much. I did not know what they were charging me for and was not given the option not to give my credit card information. Also it's weird that you have to wait 24 hours before you are allowed to petition for a return.
