Rated 2 out of 5 by from My worst year with TurboTax It seems that TurboTax is getting more difficult and less intuitive each year (certainly not cheaper!) I really struggled this year and was considering trying something else. Note: I've done my own taxes since 1975 (many years with TurboTax), and I'm a retired IT professional with web experience. Issue 1: I almost missed a very important tax credit: Plug-in Electric Vehicle credit worth over $5000! With the number of electric vehicles being purchased, there should be an upfront question similar to buying a house or having a baby. Only my own last-minute memory saved me an amended return! Issue 2: I own farmland that I rent out for cash. Simple. TurboTax has always made this more complicated than necessary taking me down two paths (rental property AND farm business) and reconciling them at the end. Confusing every year! Issue 3: This year I was tripped up by a farm rental question asking if I received "Agricultural Profit". Unfortunately, there was no *more info* for this term. I now realize it meant things like crop shares and not cash. I tried to get HELP on this term, but it returned results that couldn't be further from what I wanted!! Issue 4: When I got to the point where I could review my forms (near the end) I saw that the wrong answer for Issue 3 had generated a number of incorrect forms and bad numbers. I tried to go back and re-review that mistake, but instead of being able to make a change, it took me back to the info for my 1099-MISC and duplicated the income, not overwriting the bad input!! I retried this a number of times but couldn't find the secret to resolving this at a high level. Issue 5: After clicking through about everything clickable, I found the "Start Over" option. You probably know where this issue is going. It said I couldn't start over after paying for the return. Which you have to do before you can review your forms. Which you probably would want to do before you start over. Unhappy TurboTax customer. Issue 6: Another option, deleting forms, seemed a little risky, but worth a try. Since the list of forms to delete from only showed the form numbers and very basic info, you couldn't tell good forms from bad forms. After a lot trial and error, I learned that aggressive deleting was more effective than timid deleting. And I learned a trick for telling one form from another by editing and misspelling words that would appear in the delete list. This option ultimately solved my problem. I would have rather started over!!! Issue 7: While deleting forms (Issue 6) I would get blank screens when reviewing the results of a delete. The solution I found was to log out and back into TurboTax (which I did 8 - 10 times). Alpha test software behavior. If things don't improve next year, I will be shopping for different tax prep solutions.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too Expensive This used to be they'd hit you for 40 to 80 bucks a year, that was reasonable. This has gotten out of control, nickel and diming you....what happened to a good service and good deal for fair value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from turbo tax I have done my taxes by hand my entire life. It is so much easier using turbo tax. Just answering questions is easy. I used to spend days on my taxes. This year I was done in a few hours. Hopefully it was done right! Just waiting for my refund!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Turbo Tax Business - The Bad news, the Good news Another year, another frustrating several days. I file personal taxes for myself, another for my parents and a third for an Irrevocable Trust. Trying to figure out which versions are needed is never easy, and like last year I got it wrong the first time. To add to the frustration buying tax software early is a mistake since once you learn that you purchased the wrong version the timeframe for a full refund has lapsed. Next, if you try and install two personal versions the software has a fit, and fixing things so that the eventual install works is very time consuming and painful. This year once I finally learned that I needed Business for the trust I also learned it wasn't available at a retail store and had to be downloaded. The download didn't work until I uninstalled every other Turbo Tax version ever installed on my computer. Even the helpful folks at Inuit did not fully and correctly detail what was causing the error and how to fix it. Once everything worked, the process was easy and efficient. Almost. The final review came up with a situation where I found myself in a seemingly endless loop of checking and rechecking with no details on what wasn't quite right. After about 10 re-reviews I figured it out on my own, but it would have been nice if the software provide a more concise message other than "let's check things one more time".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Turbo Tax 2022 Could never file manually. Product is excellent. Sometime asks questions that aren't readily apparent. Can make you feel uneasy about process. For example last year had to prepare an amended return but this year didn't carry over a lot of original data & info.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super helpful for my first time I was kind of scared to do my taxes, it's my first year doing it and I didn't really have much help on knowing how to do it. I asked some of my friends how they did their taxes (they're a little older than me) and they pointed me here. TurboTax was very user-friendly, and it took all the stress I had out of doing my taxes.
