Fortunately, there is an option to file an amended return via TurboTax. For some reason, it did not include 1099-DIV in the list of income sections to amend, so I had to go to it manually, but everything worked out and I could still file the amendment electronically.

It would be nice if you would carry forward any NOL or deferred deductions to the current year instead of having to look back at the old software or return documents.

If you have a simple tax return, you can file for free yourself with TurboTax Free Edition, or you can file with TurboTax Live Assisted Basic or TurboTax Live Full Service Basic at the listed price.

A simple tax return is one that's filed using IRS Form 1040 only, without having to attach any forms or schedules. Only certain taxpayers are eligible.
