Rated 2 out of 5 by from TOO MANY HIDDEN FEES! Freelancers beware! This year, it is required for freelancers (like performing artists) to file a 1099-K instead of a W-2. We already have to pay extra for taxes because we are "self-employeed", but now we are also REQUIRED to pay $59 to upgrade to Turbotax Deluxe in order to use the 1099-K form. This also affected my state return because both my returns are no longer considered "simple" filings. They wanted me to pay ANOTHER $59 to file my state, and after a 45 minute call with customer service they said I have to delete all my progress, file only my federal return with e-file, and then mail my state return. It is just ridiculous. I will not be using turbo tax next year.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good. Solo 401(k) - not helpful! Confusing! I've been using Turbotax each year for about 15 years now and always been well satisfied. The past few yeaers we've had a solo 401(k) and the process of dealing with it in Turbotax is absolutely maddening. It takes you round and round and round without ever making the final figures clear that you need to know to make your contributions. I realize that the official calculation is circular - but I pay for TurboTax to clarify my taxes, not perpetuate the government's obfuscations!
