The assistants were very kind but they were not able to resolve my issue: After paying for TurboTax I could see that there was a mistake on my CA state return. In Part III Qualifying Person Information (4) I entered my approximate annual income. However I was supposed to enter my child's income. I was unable to amend the return.

I had inadvertently put a wrong state into the business address so the zip did not coincide with info and gave me a headache trying to figure out how to correct the misinformation.

Rated 3 out of 5 by dmi55 from EXPENSIVE I wanted to file with some assistance, but found that I had to fill out a lot of the tax return info my self for 119$ and then had to pay an additional 60$ to file state taxes so that I did not have to do it from scratch when the info I entered was just duplicated more or less and then charged another 39$ to have turbotax charge these fees from my tax returns.. Not to happy about it!

Goes without saying that it makes the mathematical intricacies of final totals very matter of fact. Used it for years and my return is not a simply 2-4 pager.

If you have a simple tax return, you can file for free yourself with TurboTax Free Edition, or you can file with TurboTax Live Assisted Basic or TurboTax Live Full Service Basic at the listed price.

A simple tax return is one that's filed using IRS Form 1040 only, without having to attach any forms or schedules. Only certain taxpayers are eligible.
