Rated 3 out of 5 by Brianosaurus from Works, sometimes confusing, annoying upsells. I've been using TurboTax every year since my wife became self-employed in 1997. It gets the job done, but the experience is really a mixed bag and it seems to only bet getting worse. As my taxes have become more complicated, TurboTax has become more confusing as it tries to over-simplify them. Some examples: - HSA contributions are called employer contributions even though the contributions come from the employee, and they are treated as income until near the end when TurboTax asks if you have a HDHP. - Employee stock plan (e.g. ESPP) transactions are confusing because they are entered as an over-simplified addition to generic stock transactions. - Scholarships and grants are confusing because they are also oversimplified and you can't really map the form data on 1098-T to what TurboTax is entering on the return. - The same 1099-MISC/NEC forms are tracked in both the business and personal income sections. Then, there are the in-app purchases: - Audit protection, automatic subscription, blah blah. Too much upselling. Just stop it already. - If you want to E-file your federal return but mail your state return, it's convoluted. You have to e-file the federal return, but say you don't want to e-file the state right now, then back up and say you want to mail the federal and state returns, but then say you don't want to mail the federal right now. It would be trivially easy to fix, but the reality is that Intuit just want you to trick you into paying $25 for the state e-file that costs them pennies. A stamp, an envelope, and a few sheets of paper still cost me pennies. I've also been annoyed by Intuit pushing some tax forms up to more expensive tiers of TurboTax, forcing users to pay a higher price just for access to a specific form that they previously had in a lower tier. TurboTax has a nice feature to import business revenue/expenses from QuickBooks. Unfortunately, it takes a lot of work to configure it and maintain it. Intuit is moving QuickBooks to an expensive online subscription only in 2023, so I'll likely stop using QuickBooks soon, and the QuickBooks integration is really the only reason I've stuck with TurboTax.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LanaaaaB from TurboTax is so quick and easy! I love that TurboTax keeps my information from the previous year to make it a super easy process when it is time to file again. It is also super helpful that they can access W2s. The site has clear directions, it is user friendly, and I appreciate the friendly email reminders. I recommend it - especially for those who want to do their taxes FOR FREE.

Rated 1 out of 5 by livid w this sight from I prob will never use this again the "help" they provided was trash...i used Google the whole time. Stopping and restarting about a good 5-6 times was so annoying i like to be ahead my taxes arent supposed to be this complex. Submitting all of the forms I needed to upgrade (300 dollars down the drain) mind you the forms were regular forms honestly should have stuck to Taxact.com they would've given my a full refund and filed to 30 bucks....

Rated 4 out of 5 by chandumanchi from All Good but an issue with entering long names Everything was smooth except for entering my full name. My first name is longer than 20 characters and it does not allow me to enter my full first name. I never faced this issue with Sprintax which I used for the last four years to file taxes. Please fix this.
