Rated 1 out of 5 by Jackson Barnhisel from Tech Error with Employer's state ID in W2 I've run into this issue 2 years in a row now and keep forgetting to use a different tax filing service. The Employer's state ID number is typed in 100% accurately into the W2 but when I do the "Review" for the state tax side of things it keeps telling me there's an error. It is shown EXACTLY how it is on my W2 form. I even tried using lower case letters at the end because online forums say to try that. I have to file my state taxes by physical mail again because Turbotax's system thinks my Employers state ID number is incorrect even though it's not.

If you have a simple tax return, you can file for free yourself with TurboTax Free Edition, or you can file with TurboTax Live Assisted Basic or TurboTax Live Full Service Basic at the listed price.

A simple tax return is one that's filed using IRS Form 1040 only, without having to attach any forms or schedules. Only certain taxpayers are eligible.
