Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too Many Fees! Good user interface. The added charges for purchasing and filing state taxes is absurd and the reason for the poor review. People with simple tax returns are better off with less expensive options!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product I have used Turbo Tax for years. I continue to use it because it is the easiest way to get my taxes done. The question format covers everything that I need I use the Deluxe version, but have not tried anything more than that. I can only speak to simple returns.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lots of software quality problems I have been a software developer & manager for 40+ years. I am quite concerned about the numerous quality issues I encountered when preparing my 2023 tax return with TurboTax (I saw problems in TurboTax for the last couple of years as well). I have used TurboTax for many years. It seems that over the last few years the quality has gone down. Most of the problems I see are not in the main tax calculation part of the program - more in the flow of how you go through the steps, wording on screens, etc. However, some problems were more important. For example, they calculated the penalty for not making estimated tax deposits in large enough amounts, based on the usual assumption that my income was spread evenly through the year. TT calculated the penalty correctly for that assumption. There is a place in the program where I was able to enter the additional detail of what income was received in which quarter, and that (correctly) eliminated the penalty. The problem was that TT should have flagged that penalty as something to ask me about rather than silently putting the penalty in the tiny box on the 1040 form. I was only aware of the penalty because I did some extremely detailed review of the return (multiple times) and finally noticed that the refund didn't exactly match the refund I had manually calculated. That led me to dig deeper, and I discovered the penalty. After that, I looked more closely at some of the "less common" choices in TT that are not presented in the step-by-step flow of screens, and I was able to enter the detailed dates for my income. This eliminated the penalty. Another big concern is the number of updates to the program long after January 1. Even during April there were updates almost every time I opened the program. This is scary when you think about all the people who submitted their tax return early in the year, when TT had not yet fixed all those defects. On top of that, they never tell you which forms or calculations have corrections when there is an update to the program, so you have no way to know if there are changes to forms that are critical to your own return. Based on my experience in the software industry, it is clear that Intuit is not devoting enough resources to ensuring that TurboTax is working correctly. After all the years I have used TT to file my taxes, I no longer have any confidence in this product!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from TurboTax has gone to the dark side Did everything myself. Was asked a ridiculous amount of times about purchasing more expensive packages. I denied every one of them. I selected continue with basic over and over again. Then at the end my receipt shows 188$, that I was charged for premium. No confirmation, no ability to go back. Complete scam. This isnt an accident, This is designed this way purposefully. We will not be back.
