Rated 3 out of 5 by CarlosJr from Turbo tax is good but there's room for improvement I've done from simple to very complex tax returns. Turbo tax has guided steps for a lot of situations but needs to improve on explaining advanced situations for example, having sold RSUs and ISOs. With ISOs they don't explain the risk of paying double taxes or other risks of missing entries in your forms. I made this mistake once and was not warned by turbo tax and received a large tax bill. I know how to handle the situation now but it was not due to Turbo tax catching it.

If you have a simple tax return, you can file for free yourself with TurboTax Free Edition, or you can file with TurboTax Live Assisted Basic or TurboTax Live Full Service Basic at the listed price.

A simple tax return is one that's filed using IRS Form 1040 only, without having to attach any forms or schedules. Only certain taxpayers are eligible.
