Rated 2 out of 5 by from Easy to use, easy to lose TurboTax made my tax filing very easy. My issue, though, is how they tried to manipulate me into spending way more than necessary. The pop-ups that ask if you'd like to upgrade are very misleading and too frequent. Also, I upgraded to the basic self-employed package and was told that I would be able to pay for said package with my federal tax return. When prompted, I chose this option, only to be told that my federal return (being almost 10 times the amount they were charging for the package) was not enough to cover the expenses. I called customer support and waited on hold for 20 minutes, and the lady told me she wasn't sure why this happened and that she would transfer me to an expert. After a few more minutes of waiting for my call to be transferred, an automated voice comes on to tell me that speaking with an expert isn't included in my package and I need to spend $80 to complete the call. Complete waste of time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Added a fee w/o my consent This is my third year using TurboTax, and for the most part I like it because it is easy to use and helps me file my taxes quickly. However, this time around I noticed that they added a $44 “Premium Services Benefit” charge to my fees without my consent. When I clicked the “remove” button, the screen went blank and ultimately did not remove the fee. This led to me being on an hour-long call with a customer service rep (whom was really kind by the way) and she ended up just giving me a discount code since no one could erase the charge. This was incredibly time consuming and made me lose some trust in TurboTax. This is a reminder to ALWAYS be checking for fees and charges before you file!
