Rated 1 out of 5 by Susiei from Turbo Tax Raised Prices for State Normally I like using Turbo Tax and this year when I bought it, part of the deal was a credit to file my state. Well I thought that would be great, a $10 credit and they only charge $9.99 to file (forget the penny). Well, I should have dug deeper, they are charging more to file the state than last year and even with the credit I would pay more (this year it is $25, credit is $10, so now you pay $15)...Just Wow! I will just file my state with my state online for free...Turbo did not save me enough time to justify paying $15.

It's the new tax laws that are confusing but they talked me through it. Will use again next year. At one point I needed help to put more info on my federal so I asked for help and Charles was so helpful and gave me advice what to do for next years taxes. Great advice. Going to follow it.

Turbotax told me that the best option was the standard deduction. That didn't seem right to me. After talking with Maria at customer service, she showed me how to take my much larger itemized deduction. I really appreciated the customer service.

If you have a simple tax return, you can file for free with TurboTax Free Edition or TurboTax Live Assisted Basic. You can also file with TurboTax Live Full Service Basic at the listed price.

A simple tax return is one that's filed using IRS Form 1040 only, without having to attach any forms or schedules. Only certain taxpayers are eligible.
