TurboTax Desktop log in issue
I was constantly having issue when TurboTax desktop had to forced me to sign in again despite putting EXACTLY same passwords. I ended up just authenticating myself with text message and email and updated password EXACTLY the same again to keep my tax return process going. But at the last process of state return to pay the return, it wouldn't let me log in despite trying more than twice, I just decided to checkout as a guest so I could avoid all this mess of log in authentication issue.

A few peeves with 1120C
Program should default NOL forms from prior years. I feel like I have to do it each year. It recognized that I should do a balance sheet because New York State requires it. Yet it wouldn't prompt me to complete it. But in the review prior to transmitting returns it recognized that the Opening Inventory didn't match the (uncompleted) balance sheet and there was no way to override it. I was stuck in a loop and no way to get past it. Had to go into Forms view and complete the Federal Balance Sheet. I hope it will suffice for NYS too.

Not as good as in the past, lots of room for impro
I used to use TurboTax in the past, then moved to HR Block, but this year - boy did HR Block's software stink! Confusing terminology, etc., it decided we had to file an extension, which we did not want to do and had to contact customer support to get their pro-review removed because their software refused. Then we found out that once HRB starts the extension return, there is no stopping it. We suffered with their software for days and gave up. We started TurboTax, and despite some navigation problems, finished in under five hours, granted that we had already done some of the leg work. TTax has some navigation problems to work out, as well as some terminology. I do miss the mini-spreadsheets to itemize a particular field. The connection between the Federal return and the states (we filed two states this year) is pretty lame. In the state returns, there was a field labeled "Taxes" taken from the Federal return, but no reference to where the number came from, no link to take us directly to that section of the return. We had to go there manually, find the section, and then when returning to the state return, we had to click through the entire state return from the start. Also, with two states, you have to apportion income, etc., between the two states. You would THINK that if there is $100,000 for the year, and you gave $80,000 to one state, the other state would automatically enter $20,000 - or at the least, suggest that number. Nope. Also, with multiple states, the first question should be "When did you become a resident?" or What are you residency dates. Then the program could suggest an apportionment for things like interest, income, etc., at least compute the percentage(s) for you. Its like the Federal return and the states' returns are from three different companies. Then, importing data from financial institutions was a problem, apparently, TTax thinks you have just one such account at each place, even when you are filing jointly. Another call to tech support and 15 minutes resolved that issue. With 35 years of software engineering behind me, these are design issues that do not make sense. And another thing, how about if you ask me if I owned a business in the first few questions and then not pester me with the business questions? In all, we will be using TTax in the future.

Best way to file Taxes on your own!
Turbo Tax has a very friendly user interface that efficiently guides you through filing your taxes on your own. Taxes can be stressful, but Turbo tax makes it less stressful by walking you step by step through the tax filing process. Plus, the low cost fee for filing through Turbo Tax can be taken directly out of your return so there is no up front cost to filing though Turbo Tax.
