Rated 5 out of 5 by from You may or may not get a good TurboTax Live Expert I didn't need to use a Live Tax Expert for this year's return, but I did to correct an omission I made on my 2018 taxes. I had to make several calls about my issue and got different "experts" each time. Like anything else, some were better than others; in fact, I'd rate one of them (the second person) as "poor" because she didn't seem to understand my problem and/or seemed uninterested; the first person was very helpful in helping me figure out cost basis of some stock that I sold, but the final person I spoke with was absolutely a lifesaver--I wish I could remember his name--but he walked me through from start to finish and provided the "hand-holding" I needed and I can't begin to tell you how grateful I was. The "tax experts" service is indeed very helpful, provided that you are lucky enough, as I was, to get a "good one" in the end. BUT it is a bit unnerving that it's a crap shoot as to the quality of the person you're going to get. As I did, I guess you just have to keep calling until you get someone who can truly help you. I gave the Expert Rating three stars based on what I wrote above: a combination of poor and excellent!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Frustration central! Product used to be easy to use and easy to file. No such luck for the past two years. I got charged for state filing for 2019 return and I was unable to file electronically. This year I wanted to talk to someone about allowing me to file this year electronically at no charge and it is impossible to talk to anyone or get any help. This may be my last year to purchase your product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The QTP (529 Plan) guided entries are insufficient I am a parent who has used Turbo Tax for decades and will continue to use it because it is essentially a great product. However, while helping my son in college use Turbo Tax for his taxes I uncovered a hole in your product. Because he is a dependent, the program did not allow him to enter his qualified education expenses related to his 1099-Q form (this is the from he received from our 529 plan regarding distributions to his university to pay for his tuition/other education expenses, etc). Your program simply said he was not eligible for the tax credits which the parents take on their return (correct) but then skipped to the next income subject instead of opening a worksheet for him to enter his qualified education expenses. (That’s the hole) Tuition alone was 28,000 that year paid from the 529 savings account. Because he could not enter the information that his tuition was a qualified expense, Turbo Tax determined that the all earnings attributable to the 529 distribution were taxable. (Wrong!) After going to the IRS website and carefully reading publication 970, I luckily knew enough about Turbo Tax to go look at the forms. I could see the 1099-Q summary where the qualified expenses would be subtracted but that entry was blank and locked. I knew enough to click on one of the several “ZOOM” links in that summary form to worksheets and find where to manually enter the qualified expenses. Then I printed the Fed return to pdf to examine it. I had to tweak it a bit more until I got it right. I reprinted to pdf every time to double check. Had to do a little tweaking in the forms in the State product as well, only because my son had gone all the way to the very end, just before filing electronically. Without adding the qualified expenses manually in the forms he would have had to pay over $3,000 in Fed and State taxes! Instead he is getting refunds from both agencies. Please correct this in Turbo Tax! I feel for the unfortunate parents and students out there that are flummoxed by this hole in your product and as a result are having to pay taxes they shouldn’t - or - give up on Turbo Tax in frustration and take everything to a tax preparer. I plan to review my son’s previous year return for the same hole and have him file an amendment if I find it there, too. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS!! Found in Turbo Tax Deluxe 2020.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Turbo tax is really thorough and fanatastic Turbo tax has provided me the best platform to file my taxes for so many years now. I have never faced issues filing through Turbo tax. They are always thorough and the workflow is so much self explanatory that i can do everything myself. Also, I discussed some issues with Live help and they called me immediately and the tax professionals were thorough in their knowledge and were very helpful.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from TurboTax is dumb. Screw this company for profiting off something the government should just give us or tell us.
