Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good product that should be unnecessary Turbotax is really intuitive and easy to use, but it shouldn't exist. They lobby to keep the government from implementing easy, free, online tax returns so they can keep charging people year after year.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Downloading Turbo Tax and Installing was Abysmal I purchased Turbo Tax from Costco which nicely provided me an installation CD disc and product key. So far - so good. Because I have a brand new laptop without a CD reader I needed to download the software. Did anyone at Turbotax test the following package instructions logging into TurboTax as a customer? They didn't work whatsoever. TurboTax - this is utterly ABYSMAL. Rarely do software professionals implement software, never-mind end user instructions, without first testing the software using as an end user account. It appears this wasn't done. PLEASE GET THIS PROCESS AND INSTRUCTIONS CORRECTED FOR NEXT YEAR. Insert stated: "Download 1. Go to InstallTurboTax.com 2. Sign in or create an account 3. Enter your license code to start your download 4. Continue..." THESE INSTRUCTIONS DID NOT WORK WHAT-SO-EVER. I WAS TEMPTED TO RETURN THE SOFTWARE AT COSTCO FOR A FULL RE-FUND.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from TurboTax pretty taxing Online only format much slower and harder to use than a downloaded software program. The advertised price was about half of what I actually had to pay after I was already committed to the program. I live in a state with no income tax. You'd think such a great tax program would know that instead of repeatedly asking me to pay for a state tax add-on. Now I've finally e-filed and the only form the program gave me was the payment voucher. I'm left with no tax forms for my records.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Better than paper, but still buggy Turbotax continues to be unwieldy for the situation of having a bank account in another country (which doesn't seem like it would be very unusual). It asked me to enter how much interest I'd reported that was from a foreign account; that was fine. But then I had to say what form and line this was reported on, and the suggestion was that I should complete my return, print a preview copy, hunt it down there, and then go back to this section and fill in the information! Also, I got taken through those screens repeatedly After the "checking" step, made me fill in a lot of details or blank fields that should have been asked for at the time that I completed that part. Does not recover gracefully from a break in wi-fi connection After importing a 1099-R, TurboTax made me do a lot of weird clicking on radio buttons (even when the right one was already selected) to get rid of orange warning messages. Also insisted that a "0" entered on the form by a major state employees' pension system (who I assume know what they're doing) had to be at least 0.01.
