Rated 2 out of 5 by from The Experience Gets Worse Each Year I have several big complaints. The worst is first: 1. I used TT to access the 1099-DIV from Fidelity online. When I reviewed the numbers, the Foreign Tax Credit number didn't add up. After much searching, I discovered that TT pulled the Box 7 Foreign Tax Paid where it should have taken Box 11 Exempt Interest Dividends. This caused a smaller number to be used in the worksheet and limited utilization of the Foreign Tax Credit to a fraction of what it should have been. I had to manually enter the 1099-DIV info to overcome the problem. It's unacceptable for software that takes over the entry process to get it wrong. 2. I used TurboTax a number of years ago, changed to using a tax accountant for a few years, and then came back to TurboTax. I used to really appreciate the way you could track a number on a form to the input or form that caused it. These days, the software is not as transparent and I'm often left wondering why a number appears where it does. 3. When the Step-by-step asks for information that you may have entered elsewhere (e.g. Schedule C and then Schedule A), it sometimes points out that you've already entered something for the category. If it would ALWAYS do this, it would prevent double entry errors.
