Rated 3 out of 5 by from Thank God for this GUY!! We selected complete my taxes for me which was a big mistake on our end. We talked to our CPA for 3 minutes. She closed the case. We went to e-file and transmit our returns and a screen came up with invalid agency ID. We called and email turbo tax 3 times. Finally, on the 3rd try this amazing guy figured out what the CPA did wrong and fixed the issue. We are super thankful for this man!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not much alternative Can't stand the 'question' and 'response' format that TurboTax has always used. Gives you no insight into what it's doing. And it makes it incredibly confusing if you don't enter things in the exact order they expect you to.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Product short comings Turbo Tax doesn't round the capital gains or losses on individual transactions according to the methodology they claim to use. Dollar amounts ending with an .06 for example are rounded up, with a .65 are rounded down. Since they claim to round up or down in the conventional manner, this is an error. Since it applies to both gains and losses, this effect can be magnified. I have hundreds of transactions, so it could be off as much as $50-$75. At the very least, it does not inspire confidence in its accuracy. The process for editing individual transactions has a bug in it. To edit box 1b purchase date, it is supposed to provide 2 options, Blank or Various. Blank is the screened default and if you keep it, there is no message saying the system won't accept it or that something needs to be entered. Continuing out, it says again, needs review, but doesn't tell you what needs to be reviewed. Not able to fix it, I left it. Only when I got to the penultimate review, and went into it again, did it say I needed to enter an option. Only after trying to enter "Blank" again, did it say I needed to enter an option and it became clear that "Blank" was not allowed and I had to enter "Various" to move on. I have several non-covered average cost basis transactions that had to be edited and each one took at least 3-4 times to get entered and eliminate the needs review flag Using Turbo Tax, you don't deal much with the actual tax return forms. If there is a change to the form or Turbo Tax methodology in populating the form, it is not readily apparent. I just spent an hour and a half on the phone with an specialist who was friendly, patient, and willing to help. That said, if she or the person she was chatting with for the answer was just a little more knowledgeable or able to communicate more accurately, this conversation could have been over in no more than 5 minutes. In later examining the instructions on the forms closely, all she had to say was, "If you look at the form, the IRS does not require listing every single transaction, only the ones with adjustments or other exceptions. We may have listed every transaction in the past, but no longer do so. So despite the fact that your return this year is 10-15 pages shorter, you should be ok." In hindsight, she was kind of close to the correct answer, but not exactly and not able to communicate why it was all ok, other than it was in the system, which I already knew. In fact her final reason for the form being much shorter than what I was used to in past returns was that it stopped printing transactions when it came to a wash sale.
