Rated 3 out of 5 by from Can be More Sophisticated in Dealing w/Rental Turbo Tax is good overall for simple tax returns. When it comes to 1040s with multiple rental properties especially with owner occupied multifamily home rentals which are pretty common in Metro areas of big cities like New York, I wish Turbo Tax can be more sophisticated. On Sch E if you have a owner occupied multifamily home, Turbo Tax will ask the % of the home being rented, then tell you the software will take the total expenses like mortgage interest, property taxes etc. and multiply by the rental % to get the expenses on sch E. It does the calc correctly on Sch E. However, when entering the same mortgage interest/property tax for itemized deductions, it never seems to calculate them right, it double counts the amounts and if you delete the 1098s entered on Sch A itemized deduction, it's not taking the portion of mortgage interest/property taxes relates to the owner occupied unit at all. Also for rental properties that you accidently enter personal used days wrong, there's no way to fix it unless you delete that rental property. TurboTax keep asking to correct the total days rented, but if someone accidently entered personal used days as 365 and cannot fix it, they cannot enter any rental days either, causing the rental property to be invalid as rental properties need to be rented out at least 15 days.

Then reviewing time, the software got caught in internal error of 0.000006% difference in the way home office deductions get calculated. But once standard deduction is chosen (none of the itemized deductions should matter), but program got caught in that error and wouldn't let me file online. False claim of free filing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Full Service After months of terrible service and mistake after mistake with turbo tax representatives, I will say in the end I worked with Frederick (who had nothing to do with the issues before) and he worked very hard to get my return done and completed by the 15th. I found that process to give me relief and it was pretty painless. I do appreciate Frederick and is hard work and I will do full service again next year, as the choice to just get help with my return and not do full service to start just brought more problems as the representatives had no idea what they were doing. A big thank you to Frederick for saving the day! I can sleep well tonight!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Direct Sales - Turbo Tax makes taxes simple This makes self-employed tax returns much simpler. I don't know why I always file extensions when TT makes it so painless. Now you just need to come up with a great inventory management program that links to quickbooks for direct sales!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Use of 2020 TurboTax Have used TurboTax for several years and it's a solid way for people like me who like to do their taxes themselves to accomplish this. Oner the years the glitches have been worked out and I'm very comfortable with the process that the software takes me through. It most importantly allows me to pick and choose how I complete the return and focus my effort.
