Rated 2 out of 5 by armryan Getting to be a little overpriced
Year by year Turbotax keeps increasing it's price. Kind of a hassle, but I'll probably go with a cheaper competitor. Really, really annoyed with the over charging on State Return. Saved an easy 40 bucks and only had to plug in 4 numbers on my Colorado state return. If it had been $20 I would have just paid. Turbotax needs to re-evaluate pricing or they are going to start losing loyal customers.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Bbeckham83 User friendly - getting expensive
When I started using TurboTax it was user friendly, and federal returns were free. It's still user friendly and that is great. After paying to use the service and to file both state and federal returns, the cost was well over $100. I really like TurboTax, and it's even better since it stores our information from previous years. I'm starting to question if all that convenience is worth the cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by triceratops3 satisfied but couldn't figure out one "bug"
doing state, i was unable to efile and got this message:
Joint returns with taxpayer and spouse living in different taxing jurisdictions are not eligible for electronic filing.
BUT, my wife and i reside in the same house. Is there possibly information stored somewhere that this isn't the case? We did move in 2014, but within the same zipcode and whatever, we've always lived in the same house.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LITEbrte More than thorough... TurboTax User for 10+ Years!
In my time as a TurboTax user, I have gone from a single filer, w/ no dependents or job (a student, basically) to a small business owner with a large family (think von Trapp family, but not so wealthy). TurboTax has been there every step of the way to provide guidance without being overbearing or underserving. Now if only I could figure out why my state taxes are so high... hmm? (scratches head)

Rated 3 out of 5 by srviper Ok system, some bugs, TOOOOO Expensive
Not a perfect system, but fairly effective. it can be a mess with state forms, not everything is clear. Info should have been ported over from federal forms, but it didn't do it automatically. Speaking of Stock dividends and Capital gains info.
Also, asked some odd questions, without much explanations. Could be better. It worked, and thankfully ours looks like it was not one of the ones hacked.

I used both Turbo Tax and HRBlock to compute my taxes online. HRBlock was less expensive than Turbo Tax expecially when I had to upgrade to Prremium to handle mutual fund sales and purcheses with Fidelity. I preferred the Turbo Tax summary displays of income and deductions. it was also easier to enter the data.
I could not find an icon for contacting help on the screens. HRBlock had help icons.

Turbo Tax is a great app. I used to have a CPA do my taxes each year for several hundred dollars. Unfortunately, he passed away. So I decided to try TurboTax instead of finding another CPA.
I was pleasantly surprised with how easy and intuitive it is to use. I really like all the Help information and explanations.
Thanks for making tax prep much less of a chore and saving me the cost of a CPA.

Rated 4 out of 5 by laura208 more difficult this year
A form that was only supposed to be used for people with adjusted gross incomes of >$250000 was applied to my return unnecessarily and the form auto-populated with an incorrect number because it was not appropriate for my return. I had to call turbotax for help to find the form and delete it. I want to tell Turbotax my info and have them fill out the forms correctly. That is why I'm paying them.

Our tax situation is relatively straightforward and uncomplicated so I decided to give Turbo Tax a try last year in 2013. I loved how easy it was to complete the return, and I loved the price. Previously we had paid a tax preparer $300 but for 2013 my Turbo Tax bill was just $39. It was a no-brainer to file with Turbo Tax again in 2014.
Turbo Tax makes tax filing easy and stress free.

Rated 4 out of 5 by 021114TaxPayer Completed and e-filed my returns
It will be easy if you require input of all tax forms received (W-2, 1099, SSA, etc,) in the very beginning. That way I can be sure that I have not over looked any tax item. Your software can then place right numbers on right forms in the return.
Down loading 1099 info from Banks and investment company was helpful but did not always fully entered description of property sold in Schedule D form.

Been using Turbo Tax for years. Never had a problem. Even when it was a year that I owed. :( Glad to still be using it, and have the guidance to check through each piece of information needed for a complete return. I'm trusting that my data is safe, and glad to have the comparison and updates from the previous years. That makes it o so smoother, and provides an annual overview from one year ago.

I have used Turbo Tax since 2006. I find its user friendly platform as a huge plus because most people do not want to spend a lot of time preparing their taxes. If there is one suggestion, it is the ability to jump into a form to manually override information or bring them to the part of the session that asks for information to enter. I don't know why I would go any place else to file my returns.

This is my second year using TurboTax, and will continue to use in the future. Previous years I had used CPAs, charge over 2x as much and took a month to get filing done. As soon as I have all the tax info from my accounts and employer, I can log on and file in less than an hour. No more paperwork, I can save tax records to my computer directly, which I also back up on a thumb drive just in case.

Rated 2 out of 5 by AlexisCain Turbotax works pretty well for most things, but it has always been a nightmare for dealing with Forms 8615-- no ability to pull numbers from Parents' return to children's return and from children's returns to each other's. It is worse now that you can't look at forms until you have actually filed. For this reason, I will be looking for different tax software that deals with this situation better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by KL217 2014 version not as easy to use as the previous
Generally, the 2014 version is not very friendly for those of us who reside outside of the US. I wasted time digging around for the forms pertaining to foreign income, etc. Also, it was more than frustrating to not be able to pay with my US credit card without a US billing address. Why would having a US billing address be so important? Think about it Intuit! I hope that you guys fix these issues.

Rated 4 out of 5 by ruekeane Turbotax every year
We use TurboTax every year, and for e-filing and speed in doing taxes, we haven't found anything that beats it. Never been audited, and they do a good job looking for deductions.
However, the forced upgrades because we have a small amount of money in Prosper that comes on a 1099-B is annoying. Our tax picture is very simple and we are not homeowners. But for that one account I could file an EZ...

I HAVE USED TURBOTAX FOR A LONG TIME AND HAVE LOVED IT. THIS YEAR I SOLD MY HOME AND MY HOME I INHEIRTED FROM MY GRANDMA. THE PROGRAM IS NOT SELF EXPLANITORY FOR THIS. I TYPED IN QUESTIONS BUT STILL WAS NOT SURE SO I WAITED 2 HOURS ON HOLD TO FIND OUT IT IS IN THE INVESTMENTS FOR STOCKS ETC. WHY CAN THERE JUST BE A SECTION FOR SELL OF A HOME? THAT IS MY ONLY COMPLAINT. I LIKE EASY AS YOU CAN TELL!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Svasquez Very Intuitive
I am elated about how it is getting easier and easier to file a return with turbotax. The AI engine is getting better ad recommending what you need to file your return. It is still a bit hard to follow for different deductions. The unreimbursed business expense form (2106) needs to have a more straighforward way to input this information. It was difficult to find where to click for this deduction.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Chris2222222222 The software worked fine. However, I am extremely disappointed with TurboTax. I originally submitted my return on 4/12. Unfortunately the return was rejected due to a PIN issue - but I was never notified. I discovered the error on May 3 when I realized the tax due was never withdrawn from my bank account. I expect that I will now have to pay a significant late fee .I will never use TurboTax again.

Every year I do my taxes with Turbotax, I know that I can rely on their expertise of the latest tax laws and requirements. If I have new tax situations to deal with, I know that I can rely on Turbotax to be able to walk me through the requirements and ensure that I am meeting my tax obligations.
The software is quick, easy to follow, and done accurately!
I can be confident my taxes are done right!

I love the ease of using Turbo Tax to prepare and file my taxes. The program guides you through the process with appropriate questions along the way. However, the final price of the software should be noted before downloading the program and beginning the process, I could have saved $40 or more by purchasing the same software at my local office supply store and installing it on my computer myself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by cookiehh excellent with a couple of glitches
Overall, I much prefer doing my own taxes than bringing all the documents to a preparer, who will drop the numbers into a software program—probablyTurboTax! I'd rather pay myself!
If I'd been able to view my forms, I wouldn't have had to contact customer support, which I did three times. I would have understood the 1099-B better and the reason for a preliminary AGI before my return was completed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Prof88 Pretty Efficient but Price Gouging is Detestable
I am waiting for a competitor to appear. The convenience of the program, (although it did miss a couple of mistakes and some directions were incorrect) is offset by the huge increase in price, especially if you are using it closer to tax time. That feels like price gouging. I feel about TT the way I did about the old ATT before there was phone competition. Just waiting for the day I can jump ship!
