Rated 4 out of 5 by from OK software, some quirks but mostly painless The web software works OK overall. Filed my simple return in roughly 30 minutes. Having trouble deciding between 3 stars or 4 stars; if there was a 3.5 star option I would give it that. I do have some gripes so I will list those - the software is far from perfect. At step 1 the first screen I was a bit distraught when they ask you for a PDF of your last return to reuse info. I forgot to save one and was upset that it seemed like they didn't save it for me either (I filed last year with this same service). This was rectified somewhat when I got to the next steps and saw a lot of my info was already saved anyways. But I still spent some minutes of tedium searching my email for a PDF of the return. Unsuccessfully searching, as they don't email you a copy of the return. They email you a link to save it, that expires after a few months. So naturally mine was a dead link as it was a year old. - As you are filling out the forms, if you are missing any critical boxes, it will say "Needs Review" in the main menu but it doesnt HIGHLIGHT which boxes you are missing inside the form until the end phase. this is pretty frustrating because you have to click through the whole form to try to figure out what you missed, until you decide to just click through farther to the end and realize they do actually highlight it for you, just later. That is my main gripe with the system, the UI is a bit clunky and could be made more user friendly. some other UI issues: When I went to sign there was a box for "spouse name and date if filing together. Leave blank if filing alone." but it physically would not let me leave it blank. then I tried typing N/A and it said "no slashes allowed. enter name." so then I typed NONE, NONE in first name last name. I just hope the IRS doesnt think im happily married to my longtime partner None None and we are filing together. and just navigating around the different sections is clunky; you have to click through each page of a section to get to where you want to go, like if you want to go back and edit a specific thing. sort of hard to explain, I just feel it could be better - whenever the pricing options popped up, like when they try to sell you on the premium software with the big feature chart breakdown, my system chugged like a mad man. lagged browser and fans started whirring, and this laptop is not that old and has a dedicated GPU cause I used to play overwatch (fairly system demanding video game compared to most people's laptops) on it. devs need to fix that as frustration is not the feeling that gets sales :) but overall I would recommend the service to friends and family, just figured I'd air the grievances here and maybe they will work on them for next year. I did text chat with a "tax expert" who was VERY friendly but didn't exactly solve my problem. Ended up just googling it

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A very smooth and stress free process! This is my 5th year using TurboTax and each time I file the process is more enjoyable and easy to do! I appreciate the ability to Live Chat with a TurboTax Specialist which makes filing my taxes relatable and understandable.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Turbo Tax Business is not yet Ready for Prime Time As I have done in the past, I have used this for the trusts we manage. Many of the step-by-step questions force you to open a form. This is not step by step. Program errors would not let me e-file my state forms for several days but were finally fixed without any notice. Based on forum discussions with other users (not Intuit) I had to efile Federal separate from State. Now that the state Efile is working, completed and accepted, directions tell me to print a VA8453F form, sign and keep but don't make that available. The form exists in the database but the program provides an error message at any attempt to bring it to a print screen and it does not show up on any Print dialogs. The Printed directions that tell me this are repeated on two pages instead. I suspect this is a coding error and should be fixed in the future. This is definitely designed and released to a different quality level compared to the main Turbo Tax program that I use for my personal tax filing. Yet I have to pay twice as much.
