Rated 1 out of 5 by from TurboTax lobbies the Gov to make taxes harder I'd love to give you a positive review for well designed software, but your parent company $3.5 million on federal lobbying in 2022 to make it HARDER to do taxes in an effort to force people to use your software.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Inconsistent and hidden pricing, questionable The pricing is more and more inconsistent every year -- why is it $47 at Target, $55 at BestBuy, and $80 direct from Intuit for the same downloadable version? There's little fees and upcharges: Oh you bought Deluxe "Federal+State", but you didn't get the "with 1 free state" version? That's an additional $39.99... You want to efile state? Another $24.99... Why not throw in our 'Audit Defense' which promises the moon for only $45? You want to import your financial data w/ the downloaded version of the software? You need to log in to an Intuit account and let Intuit be the conduit to your financial institution (previously it was more of a direct connect from the program on your computer to your financial institution, no Intuit intermediary required). On top of this my confidence that it's doing a good job grows less and less every year. I've been using this software since the mid-90s and so many random little questions pop-up about some obscure box or form... I'm a typical W2 earner, I don't do investments, no virtual money, all my savings are in US bank and my retirement accounts... why am I being told to select Yes or No for Box 7K on some form with a 5 digit number? ...but you're trapped with them unless you want the expense and hassle of a human tax preparer or trying to convert file formats to one of the competitive providers. I dread the day they force it ALL to be via their online system, with no option to run the application locally on your own computer... at least today I feel like maybe my information isn't being blasted into their servers (though it probably is).
