Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thank you TT Quick easy I'm self-employed so there was a little bit more deductions that kind of stuff but it did it all for me perfectly easy file it got a refund everything is good thank you Turbo Tax.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A real step down This was by far the clunkiest implementation of Turbotax I've used after several years. Review referenced forms with no context (filling in a line on a form without any idea what that form was for); things that were irrelevant from last year were automatically included for this year requiring all kinds of deletions. Frequently things that had been reviewed were continually marked "needs review." I'm not sure I saved any time at all over paper.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Turbo Tax is Now too expensive Paid $55 at Costco and another $25 to efile my state. There are other tax programs available for much less. Also find the use of a CD a problem. You must have an option of a flash disk. Believe this will be my last year using TurboTax

Rated 3 out of 5 by from quite a few points to improve The good part: The tax law is so complicated in this country, that it’s almost impossible to make your own tax return. There are hundreds of tax forms for business tax return, and Turbotax can mostly link you to the relevant forms you need to file. Things need improvement/that I am not happy about: 1. On the page collecting business member info, turbo is Only asking if you are “foreign” or “US citizen”. there is no option to choose “resident alien/ Green Card”. This caused Quite some confusion later on – I have to read through the whole IRS 1065 instruction booklet, finally found My own LLC with my spouse is considered “domestic LLC” even though my citizenship is not US. only “nonresident alien” are considered foreign, as shown on page 30 of “instructions for Form 1065”. 2. One of the problems of this above is the requirement of “Form 8805” if you choose “foreign partners”. But Turbo does not generate 8805 even though it says you need it! (page 3 of Form 1065, line 14) 3. State return: Turbo asks me to put in “State Tax Registration #” before I can start working on state business return. While the state business return form (paper form) clearly indicates this number as “optional”. Furthermore, the state revenue office website clearly reports “you … do not need to register with the xxx Department of Revenue Services for those taxes”. So, I bought the state return but not able to use it at all. I had to turn to the state revenue website and e-filed state business return. You can imagine the state revenue website was not very user-friendly. Far from friendly. 4. there is no customer service available, when I was most desperate. The “help” link directs me to a “Turbo tax forum” for answers… you are basically on your own… 5. A lot of the links “explain this” are not helpful. In the end, you are responsible for the accuracy of your own tax return. You can imagine how much anxiety the above problems have caused me. In the meanwhile, I have tried to call some local tax services, even the state tax service line, each time they gave me a different answer. Some were not nice. That’s why I decide to study all the relevant forms/ regulations on my business return, and tried to check different boxes in Turbo, then go to the forms and look for the difference it makes on tax return. VERY time-consuming. This is a critic hoping to give suggestions for this excellent software to improve and grow (I am familiar with Turbo for personal tax return, and this is the first year I do business return). I am not totally satisfied with it because of High expectations. I am still planning to use Turbo Tax next year, if the above problems are taken care of.
