Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy filing Filed with turbotax for years, it's always been easy. I've noticed my returns are higher through turbotax compared to the free tax filing website, so it paid for itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good as Always Another year, another round of TurboTax. Seems like it's better this year. I was thikning my taxes are getting too complicated and I should get someone to do it... but TurboTax seemed to handle it no problem.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to follow I have been using Turbo Tax for 4 years now and it estimates how long it should take me and I typically spend twice the time on it. Frustrating, but still better than paying someone else to do it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Online TurboTax worked but was buggy and expensive I had already purchased the TurboTax Deluxe software, but was unable to use it because my home computer OS is now too old to install the software. I had to switch to TurboTax Online. Here are my main issues I had with the Online version: 1. Online version was 4x the cost of the Desktop version (which I have used for 10+ years). $193 vs $48. (Have submitted for refund for the desktop version that I could not install, hope that goes through.) 2. The Good: The Online version had some slick features like it let me use my phone to take a pic of my various forms and it got all the info from them. I had very little manual entry required. The Bad: But some of the times it took 3-4 tries and scanning the QR code, getting the camera ready, aiming at my form, before it would take a pic that at all, or before it would go through. I had several of my forms which were in landscape. The photo taking app REALLY did not like it when I turned my phone horizontal to try and take the picture. I would usually lock up and I would have to start over with a new QR code. There is no message or instruction that says to NOT turn it horizontal. Seemed like a bug. 3. When I got to the very end, doing the final reviews, the checking system found an error in one of the 1099-INT forms. The photo/scan had picked up and entered the wrong state code for my home address. The system correctly identified that the state did not match the zip code, but it ASSUMED the zip code was wrong and would only let me update that value (which was correct). I could scroll through and SEE the virtual form that had all the info for that 1099-INT, but it had everything locked except the zip code field. 4. I then spend over an hour trying to get one of the live agents to give me a call back (it said the wait time would be 5 min). About every 15-20 min I would put in another request... never got a call. 5. I spent a little while trying to get to the underlying forms to just make the correction, (I have done that kind of thing with the TurboTax Desktop software for years. You need to make a minor correction somewhere, just open the actual forms and fix it.) but could not find a way to get to the forms. When I went to that section of the process and hit EDIT on those form, it only has a few field values, but not the field that had the error. Tonight I just deleted my two 1099-INT forms and scanned them in again. This time they evidently went in correctly, because the error checks did not find any problems.... but I could not SEE the forms to confirm. NOTE: I did get someone on LIVE Chat tonight, who was very nice and patient, and we chatted through a few things and she confirmed that TurboTax Online does NOT have the ability to get to the underlying forms... at all. 5. While the LIVE Chat worked, and she was able to answer my questions, I was having some kind of buggy stuff where I would type in a question or response to her question, and when I would hit the Send key, I would get an error message "That feature is not supported." and I would have to hit the Back button at the top and my response would have been lost. Probably happened 10-15 times. Very frustrating. So my general feeling is: I used a product which was 4x as expensive and has 1/3 the capabilities. It has taken me 4-6 hours to do what should have taken 1 hour. On the positive side, I did call the normal customer service phone line twice during this whole process and each time I got someone who was very knowledgeable, nice, and tried really hard to solve my problems. When I tried the LIVE Chat tonight, though there were "issues" with the chat mechanism, the person I chatted with was very nice and tried to help. So customer service people were 5 stars. Overall product experience this year was 2 stars because of the cost, lack of features, and apparent bugs.
