Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lots of Problems This Year I have used Turbo Tax for my business for a couple of decades. Some years it is more problematic than others. I have a new MacBook Pro 13 running OS X 11.6.2. (Big Sur). I downloaded TT on about 3/28/22, it didn't need updates. I did my return without problems, then I tried to electronically file. The returns for both Federal & State were rejected saying the prior year's AGI was incorrect. It was NOT incorrect. There was also a note about the PIN not being right. I tried to submit twice, no luck. After this, suddenly I could not open Turbo Tax at all. I did many things such as re-installing the program. I downloaded it a couple more times in case there had been corruption in the download. No luck. When I would click to open TT, I would see a message that it was checking for updates, then everything disappeared. I called TT customer service, which had absolutely no idea what to suggest and they also said Intuit doesn't have tech support for issues such as this. I felt extremely frustrated as there was seemingly no way to resolve this. I managed to find info on user experiences with exactly this problem, and found instructions on how to un-install Turbo Tax and get rid of all the hidden files, caches, etc. Then I re-installed TT when everything for 2021 had been removed from my computer. When TT opened, it said there was an update (which had not been there two days earlier). I got the update, and now things seem to be working fine. However, I am reluctant to electronic file again and will just mail the returns. NOTE: Intuit customer service mentioned that the AGI matching from a prior year was a known problem. INTUIT: PLEASE FIX THIS. ANOTHER SUBJECT: Your website is messy. It's sometimes hard to find where my downloads are. The navigation is not good.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 20-year user - won't use again Issues: (1) Having not had to use TurboTax in a year, I forgot my password. The app locked me out repeatedly and provided no avenue to reset my password. Three layers of telephone support were unable to resolve the issue. I finally was able to figure out the password by chance guessing at what it might have been the password from my memory; otherwise, I'd still not have access to my account. (2) The app is unable to read 1099 downloads well. Consequently, I had 82 transactions from two distinct providers of 1099s I had to review manually in order to complete my return. (3) The form added a capital gain on an automobile for business I sold but had never depreciated. I suspect this cost me about $250 or more in extra tax, but I couldn't figure out how to reverse it. I ate the tax. Enough was enough already. My time is more valuable than $250. (4) I understand why the app doesn't show you your tax forms and worksheets before paying - one could just take screenshots, fill in paper forms, and mail in the return at no cost; I get it - but the app doesn't show you what lines the entries affect. It is impossible to know whether the effect of your entry on your taxes is appropriate or whether the answer to question on the TurboTax UI is due to a misinterpretation. TurboTax could resolve this by showing you a list of forms/lines he entry affects and letting you then amend it. Instead, you just see your tax balance tick up or down at the top of the screen without an apparent reason. (5) Final Review isn't quite final. After Final Review and payment, but before I could e-file, I had to fill in one more field. For a money-market account I had earned interest on in the amount of $4.97 - total effect on taxes less than $1.50. I needed to add a CUSIP - not available on the 1099 - which, again, TurboTax cannot read. (Not going to say how I resolved that one; suffice it to say that I hope the IRS will find any error de minimis.) I have done my own taxes since 1976. I've used TurboTax since 1992. I worked in the investment industry. I keep meticulous records. I'm a finance geek and even enjoy it. I'm not an accountant, but I know my way around taxes - especially my taxes. So here's the assessment from a lay person, but an experienced lay person: TurboTax was once a five-star product, but the ease of use of the product has been in decline over the last few years. This year, the scale of the issues was mind-numbing in the complexity and time it took to get through the complications! Before this year is out, I retire. My taxes will be much simpler, and I won't need access to previous year's data stored in TurboTax. I'll start over with another app.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from missing info Usually an easy process but this year I was stumped by Mich. PIP (personal injury protection) insurance through our car insurance. There should be some way to know what percent of PIP can be used as a deduction. Not even my agent knew the answer. .

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Turbo Tax is complete disappointment Have been filing with Turbo tax for the past 4-5 years. Every year there is a technical difficulty. Customer Service has been pulling it for the product. This year was the last time using Turbo Tax. The product is not standing up for itself. I should not have to be calling Customer Support every single time I file and spend countless hours troubleshooting.
