Rated 1 out of 5 by from Intuit TurboTax Spectacular Failures I've used TT for 18 years. And I've seen improvements and deteriorations over that course of time. But lately TT has been in a steady state decline from one year to the next making tax returns difficult, confusing, and very frustrating. So what has happened? First: TT does NOT resolve 'Step by Step' form issues or deficiencies. Only work arounds are provided that often do not fully explain what needs to be considered for proper entry in the work around process. Issues in certain areas are identified in January and by end of March TT still has not corrected the issue. One such example for 2020 is the sale of a second home. In the TT 2019 product there was specific area under Other Income and Investments that specifically identified the sale of second home among others. In 2020 that particular area was completely removed from TT Step by Step. the 2020 TT has no specific area to enter the sale of the second home or how to deal with the 1099-S received for that home. The 'Expert' work around in the Community Forum was too high level and often incomplete. This is agonizing and extremely frustrating, both in learning how long the issue has been open with no solution, and loss of confidence in what is the correct way to enter the sale. Second: TT never, and I mean never, implements suggested improvements. Of course that is not entirely true. But another case in point: Manual entry of 1099-B transactions. Do manual entry and all areas of input for the manual entry are the same size - just large enough to enter the date. Didn't use to be that way in previous versions several years ago. Try typing in a description for the transaction in a window sized for a date entry 'mm/dd/yyyy' - not much area and typing scrolls out of window. Can't see if you have a typo until after the entire transaction is entered and then must get to the review window. The election by the user to use manual entry should be just that - you are now in manual entry mode - quit going back to ask the manual entry question - offer a selection - will use manual entry for ALL transactions from this investment firm. Third: TT has areas of the Step by Step that work very well and then next year's TT strips those areas out of the program. Tax code did not change, all of those items in those areas are still relevant - but now is it gone. What do you do now? How do you get to data entry for that particular item? Very very frustrating. Fourth: When finally at the e-file section after getting an all good and no errors in review and low risk audit indication, you go ahead and transmit your return. Immediately after transmitting the return, TT informs - print out and mail the following forms. This is unexpected. There was no indication from TT that prior to e-filing some form would NOT be sent electronically. Investigating further the forms to be printed and mailed to the IRS are: 8453 which identifies form 8949. And this situation is created via a bug in TT that has not handled the sale of second home correctly. Now too late - return e-filed. You have lost the opportunity to go back and try to correct some area in TT because the form is NOT needed. DO YOU NOT SEE HOW COMPLETELY FRUSTRATING AND ANNOYING THIS IS??? Turbo Tax Live Help: The wait wasn't too long. The person was extremely nice but, could not deal with the problem. After 30 mins decides to transfer me to another group. Go to hold, then hear live connection, paper being shuffled and background sounds, say Hello repeatedly - no one answers - shortly sounds of paper shuffling stop - all sounds mute - never get a person. Terminate (hang up). No one calls back. No email communication - nothing. This is very, very, poor. So, I am left on my own with a crippled TT Premium installation/return on Windows 10. The amount of extra time spent in trying to resolve issues due to deficiencies is unacceptable. The reason for purchasing TT is to HELP you with your taxes, not make them more difficult. I would like a refund.
