However, at the end I felt there were some hidden additional charges that got added on and felt forced to agree with third party information sharing once we had already gone through process of filing. We also had entered refund to go to our personal bank and somehow it still chose the recommended option of using credit karma as well as opening an account with credit karma.

If you have a simple tax return, you can file for free yourself with TurboTax Free Edition, or you can file with TurboTax Live Assisted Basic or TurboTax Live Full Service Basic at the listed price.

A simple tax return is one that's filed using IRS Form 1040 only, without having to attach any forms or schedules. Only certain taxpayers are eligible.
