Rated 2 out of 5 by from Feels like less and less of a value each year I’ve been using turbo tax for years. There are things that seem like they could improve (why not prepopulate all my prior charitable donations so I don’t have to manually enter them?) that they haven’t done. It feels like they’re putting more emphasis on paying extra for a professional review and/or audit protection, but are nevertheless raising the price of the basic product steadily. When you pay the expense for a professional to do your taxes, you pay them for their time and to know obscure tax laws that might save you money. With turbo tax, you still have to do the grunt work of the data entry, and somehow you’re supposed to know if you might need an audit or review. Pricing is also not transparent - unclear when you see a price whether or not that includes e-filing, state return, etc. Lastly, this year I filed my returns and they both were rejected — not because of anything I did/didn’t do, but because there was a software update that Turbo Tax needed to do to fix a bug. As a result, I wasn’t really done. I had to file again 10 days later. Seems like a problem on their part that creates more work for me is bad customer service. They need to re-examine their mission and rededicate themselves to making tax-filing quick and affordable, 2 things they seem to be moving away from in an effort to make more money off their audit-protection services.
