Rated 4 out of 5 by from Makes filing easy, but be alert as you go along. I have used TurboTax for years. The easy step method leads me through the entire process and is quick and efficient. This year, the program copied several empty 1099 forms from the previous year and I had to manually identify and delete them. I am not sure if that was my error or the program' s error. I did contact the phone help line for a question about dealing with a state issued 1099 for the middle class covid tax relief program. Unfortunately, I knew more about it than the the person with whom I spoke, and acted based on what I had read about the IRS decision on these payments. Because this was a known issue TurboTax should have an information alert in the program telling California filers that the IRS had ruled that the income was not taxable and not reportable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Turbotax is a Great Program Turbotax is easy to navigate. I continue to say is when you insert the banking information in the federal e-file screen, there should be a check box on the state e-file screen that asks if you want to use the same account information from the federal e-file screen. Then, the account data that was entered on the federal e-file screen would automatically transfer to the State e-file screen to stop having to do it twice. This is a minor inconvenience, but for a program where there is no guaranteed discount for repeat customers, this efficiency should be incorporated.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love how simple it is unless you have a 1099 MISC The 1099 MISC for royalty income is confusing. With as simple as this platform is, I shouldn't have to pay extra or spend 30 minutes googling what the proper procedures are.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Taxes suck A little glitchy sometimes with how it autofills your paperwork. Overall not too painful for completing my yearly taxes. I hate how it tries to scam you every step of the way, such as signing up for the premium option, or paying to use your refund to pay for the service.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Price to file an HSA is ridiculous I have a W2 and an HSA account. Having to pay 78 dollars just to file this additional HSA with a single W2 feels like a scam. My total refund is a dollar... Next time I will use a truly free tax service. First and last time using this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from wording/technical error on NJ state IRA dist's For the second year in a row I've had to outsmart TT to enter the correct amounts of my IRA distribution (roth conv) containing taxable and untaxable amounts in the interview session. Having just filed the return I am unable to go back and get the exact wording, but I can come close. After entering the full amount of the IRA distribution, TT asks two questions: (1) the value of the "account" at the time of the distribution and (2) the value of previously taxed contributions associated with the "distribution". If I enter the numbers literally but then TT doesn't calculate the taxable amount correctly [BTW, The full account is large, the previously-taxed contributions of the distribution are small]. As an alternative, I entered the value of the full account as requested in Q1, but for Q2 entered the previously-taxed contributions of the whole account (not the distribution). Now TT calculates the tax properly but, on the return, it puts the account's previously taxed amount on line 22b instead of the distribution's previously taxed amount. Finally, I entered the full value of the distribution (not the account) in Q1, and the value of the distribution's excluded amount in Q2 (done by hand). Now the problem is solved: TT calculates the correct taxable and excluded amounts, and it enters the correct amounts on the return. The software seems to want to calculate the taxable fraction from the "account" values but it's not asking the right questions.
