Rated 3 out of 5 by from TurboTax is Not FREE I like the format and user friendly system, but my only complaint is that I end up having to pay for fees that I don't deem necessary when I'm doing all the work myself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So easy I talked to a person at another tax prep place and was not getting back what I am now, mostly because of their huge fees. I was able to handle even a more complicated return and pay less in fees. My return is mine!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Forced to upgrade TurboTax package One several occasions you are brought to a page where you are presented with several options. But on the second occasion the cheaper options you have originally selected disappear and you are forced to upgrade. There's no choice, otherwise your taxes will not be filed.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Easy to Use but Fees Are Not Worth It If you are comfortable with your return dont bother with the fees. They try to grab you for premium throughout the filing and leave out the state filing cost and processing fee when they advertise the price. How hard is it to just be upfront.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from frustrating to use with the errors it returned I've used TurboTax for at least the last 7 years because obviously they are the dominant player in the tax prep market, and they seemed to have better ease to help find deductions for those with sole proprietorship. The frustrating part is that from year to year the software returns errors at the end checks, and it shows you the errors on a line by line basis on the actual return, so you have no idea how to answer them or what it will do to the return, so then you are stuck trying to figure out if you answered correctly. This happened with assets (this is a frequent pain point with Turbo Tax) so in the end it was just easier to not do the listing of assets to get a depreciation deduction.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from TurboTax is very helpful In general I think it is very helpful program. It does take away much of the worry about if information has been entered correctly and catches things I wouldn't have thought to check. I really appreciate that it looks at so many things and walks you through so much. The non-resident state income section for remote work has greatly improved in the last few years. I also appreciate that I can compare to previous years and that things, like interest sources, are included by default so I don't have to enter them from scratch. A little more information on what should be included for state adjusted gross income could be helpful, particularly for those of us filing in multiple states. It was annoying that I had to re-enter payment information for Federal when I realized an entry mistake on a W-2 during my review of the paperwork. I think a draft version of the paperwork should be available before you enter the information for federal/state refund/payment (definitely understand though why it isn't available before paying Turbotax). I find the number of upselling screens for the next level tax programs annoying but deal with them because I like the product in general. I wish that it would have let me enter all of the boxes for an INT-DIV. It only let me enter income but didn't ask me about taxes withheld. It said to check in the Deductions section but none of the options seemed to apply. I am sure this changed from years past. I know it may not be needed if it is a small amount but it is reassuring to know that all my information is being included in review. I also noticed that sometimes, at least in Firefox, screens wouldn't load initially with vertical scrolling bars so I couldn't always get to the next page without reloading. First noticed it on the screen to agree with 3rd party credit card payment terms for Federal but then happened again during fixing the W2 mistake.
