A turbo tax advisor assured me that I could (despite my expressing my doubt more than once and telling her that I was retired and not working) put $7000. in an IRA so I did that. I later learned that I could not put any money in an IRA, so I had to withdraw the $7000.00 from my IRA. This cost me $344.61 in penalties.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ready to cancel auto renew After hearing news about Turbo Tax doing away with free filing I was not happy. I don't understand what was meant by the news. I was happy that free filing of my federal return was included this year but I'm disappointed that you still do not have free filing of state returns. The cost of Turbo Tax Deluxe increases every year but the benefits do not.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Need more information It would be helpful to have access to explanations of how certain amounts were calculated by TurboTax to arrive at the amounts shown on the tax forms. For example, I was using TurboTax Deluxe and trying to understand the calculations for Tax Exempt Interest on bonds and Bond Premiums. I had to do considerable research on my own outside of TurboTax to understand the calculations. Perhaps this information is available in FurboTax, but I do not know how to find it.

I am using TurboTax for the second year and even though your website says that no previous tax knowledge is required, some knowledge is necessary to understand quite a few selections that have no explanation buttons besides them. There are places where we are expected to select a few options especially for State taxes, but nowhere is an explanation found as to what is to be selected and why. Another problem I faced is that the customer service is not easily accessible. Also the Home & Business software does not support an S-corp and S-corps can be small businesses or even solo businesses. I ended up purchasing Home & Business only to realize half-way through that it will not generate a 1120-S for me. So I purchased Business 2021 and my previous money and efforts were a waste and it hurts a small business like mine. Your product list on the landing page does not mention the TurboTax 2021 Business version being available. Now to do my personal taxes I might need to buy another version, which is un-necessary cost. The Home & Business version would not let me do the State taxes for me and I had to purchase the separate State version as an add-on with the Business version. Then there was another issue e-filing the State taxes: I could not e-file the State taxes due to a bug in the system and it kept rolling back to the same page over and over again. Seems like several others had the same problem since last two years and your tax expert has given the solution to override the system and it takes a long time to locate it because it is two years old. This e-file issue should have been fixed and resolved in the new version. For the amount that I paid, I was expecting much better. I am definitely going to consider others next year over TurboTax. I also wish that TurboTax shows the grace to create a re-fund policy for wrongly purchased software that ends up wasting money in these times for small businesses like mine. But for now Thank you.
