Rated 1 out of 5 by from Payment unclear Yes, TurboTax makes life easier and I'm OK with paying something. But hiding the costs until the end is really not cool. I was a student for part of last year then got my first job out of state. So my returns had to be filed in 2 states. I used TurboTax as I have for the past few years. But this year, because I got a tiny credit for making a retirement contribution, I had to pay for Deluxe -- times three! $59 each for federal and also two states. Really? Way more than the tax credit was worth. If I'd known that as I was using the product, I'd have opted out of the credit. When I found out at the end, my only option -- according to your online instructions -- was to delete all my hours of work and go back and start over. So I ended up paying $188 (w tax) for my little retirement contribution credit. PLEASE let people know when they're triggering something that will bump them into a non-free version -- before they continue, not at the end of all their work -- and MAKE IT CLEAR that cost is for STATE returns, too!

As the years have gone by I have been paying more, but not sure I’m really getting my money’s worth any more. Not easy to just ask questions and really be sure you’re getting the maximum discount and not overlooking anything. This year especially the process was pretty good, but it was NOT easy to just walk through it and review/update data. I felt less sure everything was accounted for this year than ever before since there can be changes to tax codes which TurboTax doesn’t necessarily call out so you’re not sure if the info is no longer required or was missed. Think this will be my last year using TurboTax.
