How do I enter per diem rate on tt basic?

I am independant contractor and sent to disaster areas. My employer does not pay for anything except travel to/from site. Can I enter the GSA per diem rates for the cities I was in (3-4 weeks at a stretch)? If so, do I indicate somewhere that I am used per diem schedule to get my line item?

I have reciepts for car rental, gasoline, etc. Just not sure about motels and meals. thanks.

I do the same thing! The "per diem" goes on line 24b of Sched. C and car rental, gas, etc. goes on 24a. I figured that out by reading the 1040 instructions - NOT using TT help. The TT system is not very intuitive unfortunately, and they charge $30/20 mins. if you want to ask them. Thank goodness they have this media.
