Why am I getting much less of my Federal income tax withheld back compared to last year when my wages were higher this year?

I made about $600 more this year than I did last year (~16300 vs 10300) and went on salary in the middle of the year.

Did you make $600 more or $6000 more? If your withholding wasn't adjusted proportionately for the higher wage, then your refund would be less.
