Asked

Why won't it let me efile my federal return?

It says that I can Efile my state, but I cannot Efile my Federal. What is going on?!

If you didn't efile last year, you can leave the PIN blank and put zero in the AGI field. If you did efile last year, call the IRS ? ask them for your "originally filed 2007 AGI" and also tell them that you need this number because you're "efiling" your 2008 return. If you don't mention this, sometimes they give you the wrong AGI number. (The IRS may have several AGI's for you, for a number of reasons.) Also, don't put the $ sign when you enter it ? just enter the numbers.

Hope this solves the problem. Good luck!

It depends on what is causing your return to not be efilable. The IRS sets the reasons for why a return is not eligible for efiling. To see the specific reson you can go to the federal review tab and advance through the screens - you will see a screen that gives you the reason for the ineligibility of your return.

My step dad did my taxes for me last year, so how would I find the PIN? Do I just need to call the IRS or what? And now it won't let me Efile either the State or the Federal. That happened after I was logged off, and I signed back on.
