Is mortgage insurance (PMI) tax deductible?

In previous years you could deduct private mortgage insurance (PMI) as an itemized deduction.  The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 (signed by the president in January, 2013) extended this deduction through December 31, 2013. You can continue to take this deduction on your 2012 and 2013 tax returns.
