Connection Preference for Updates

You need to update TurboTaxregularly to ensure you have the latest forms and software revisions. Your connection preference specifies how your TurboTax program checks for updates on the TurboTax server. You can change your connection preference at any time.

Note: If you use TurboTax Online, we update TurboTax for you.

Follow these steps:

  1. From the Online menu in TurboTax, select Connection Preference.
  2. Select one of the following:
    • Connect any time, don't ask me again (Recommended) - When you start TurboTax, it automatically connects to the Internet to check for updates. If updates are available, you can either update TurboTax or ask TurboTax to remind you the next time you start TurboTax.

    • Always ask me first - When you start TurboTax, it always asks whether to connect to the Internet to check for updates. You can either let TurboTax check for updates or skip checking for updates.

    • I don't have an Internet connection - When you start TurboTax, it never asks whether to connect to the Internet to check for updates. You must check for updates yourself using the One-click Updates  feature in TurboTax or manually.

  3. Click OK.
