TurboTax Online Return Does Not Load Completely into Adobe Reader When Printing

When you select Print in TurboTax Online, your tax return should display in Adobe Reader, which allows you to view and print your return. You must have Adobe Reader installed to print from TurboTax Online.

Some customers have reported that when they select Print, either nothing happens, they get an error message, or Adobe Reader loads but their tax return does not appear. These issues are often caused by Pop-up Blockers.

Below are several methods to resolve this issue.

Temporarily disable pop-up blockers

The first thing you should try is disabling your browser's pop-up blocking feature. Exact instructions vary by browser version; use our instructions as a guideline.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

From the Tools menu near the top of your browser window, select Pop-up Blocker > Turn Off Pop-Up Blocker.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. From the Tools menu near the top of your browser window, choose Options.
  2. Click the Content icon near the top of the window.
  3. Clear the Block pop-up windows checkbox, then click OK.

Safari

Click the "wheel" icon in the upper right corner of your browser window to open a menu. If you see a checkmark next to Block Pop-Up Windows, click it to "uncheck" it. (Or press Ctrl+Shift+K to toggle between blocking and unblocking pop-ups.)

Netscape Navigator

  1. From the Tools menu near the top of your browser window, select Security Center.
  2. Click the Popup Blocking tab.
  3. Click the blue arrow icon next to For this Site.
  4. Adjust settings that will enable popup windows and close the Security Center Window.

Reload the "View Returns" button

If enabling pop-ups didn't work, click the Back button in TurboTax Online, then click the View Returns button again. You may have to wait longer than usual for the entire page to re-load in your browser:

  • If the page loads, continue following the on-screen instructions in TurboTax Interview  to complete your tax return.
  • If the page doesn't load within 20 seconds, try selecting the Back button again. Do not select the Continue button if the page hasn't loaded.
  • If that doesn't work, proceed to the next section, Re-install Adobe Reader.

Re-install Adobe Reader

Try reinstalling Adobe Reader:

  1. Download the latest version of Adobe Reader from the Adobe web site and save it to your computer.
  2. Close all programs and then install Adobe Reader.
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. Open your return in TurboTax Online then try printing your return again.

If the problem persists, follow these instructions to "aggressively" uninstall Adobe Reader:

  1. From your Windows taskbar, select Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.
  2. Locate and select  Adobe Reader (or Adobe Acrobat Reader). You want the main program, not the Adobe Reader Updates that may show up as well.
  3. Select Remove to uninstall the program.
  4. Once Adobe has been uninstalled, double-click your My Documents icon on your computer Desktop.
  5. Select Tools > Folder Options > File Types.
  6. Locate and click the PDF extension in the first column. Then select Delete.
  7. Close all open windows then follow the first set of instructions (above) to reinstall Adobe Reader.

Try Foxit Reader

If you just can't get past this problem, switch to Foxit Reader, another online PDF viewing application similar to Adobe Reader that you can download and install for free.

Go to the Foxit web site at  http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php to download the Foxit software on your computer and follow the software installation instructions.
