Where to Mail Your Tax Returns
Where you mail your federal income tax return depends on where you reside in the United States, or, in some taxpayer circumstances, outside of the United States. Go to the Where to File Addresses web page on the IRS web site to find the specific mailing address of the appropriate IRS service center for your geographic location.
When you print your income tax return(s) for filing, the TurboTax program prints the federal and state filing instructions (if applicable) that include the mailing address of where you need to send your tax return(s). If you have a balance due, the printed filing instructions also list where you need to send your tax due payment.

How to find the IRS mailing address in TurboTax Desktop
To find out where to send your federal income tax return in the TurboTax program:
- Open your tax return in the TurboTax program.
- Click the Federal Taxes tab
- Go to the Forms menu on the menu bar, then select Open a Form.
- In the Open Form dialog box, scroll down the list, select Filing Instructions, then click Open.
- In the Select Filing Instructions dialog box, open the File by Mail Instructions (Page 1 of 1) for your tax return.
- Your can view the filing instructions on-screen or print. Select the Print button at the top to print the filing instructions.
How to find your State Taxing Authority mailing address in TurboTax Desktop
To find out where to send your state income tax return in the TurboTax program:
- Open your tax return in the TurboTax program.
- Click the State Taxes tab.
- In the State Taxes screen, click the Continue button.
- In the Start Your State Returns screen, click Start State to open your state tax return.
- Go to the Forms menu on the menu bar, then select Open a Form.
- In the Open Form dialog box, scroll down the list, select Filing Instructions, then click Open.
- In the Select Filing Instructions dialog box, open the File by Mail Instructions (Page 1 of 1) for your tax return.
- Your can view the filing instructions on-screen or print. Select the Print button at the top to print the filing instructions.
How to find the mailing address for the IRS and your State Taxing Authority in TurboTax Online
To find out where to send your federal income tax return OR your state income tax return in the TurboTax Online program:
- Log on to TurboTax Online.
- Select the Print & File tab.
- Select File by Mail, and then select Print My Federal Return.
- In the Print Your Returns For Filing screen, select which tax return you want to print (federal or state, or both), then select the Print Selected Returns button.
- Wait for the TurboTax Online program to prepare printable forms.
- In the Preview and Print screen, TurboTax Online displays your Filing by Mail Instructions in an Adobe PDF window as shown below.
- You can print your filing instructions by selecting the printer icon on the toolbar at the top of the window (second icon from the left).
