Accessing Last Year's TurboTax Desktop Return

We do not maintain copies of your tax return prepared using TurboTax desktop software, not even if it was e-filed. E-filing does not store tax return data on our servers.

You'll need to search your computer for your tax return file if it was prepared using a desktop version. Follow our instructions for Windows or Macintosh.

Then open your tax return in the same tax-year version of TurboTax (for example, open your 2007 return in TurboTax 2007). If you try to open it in the wrong tax year, you'll get error code 539.

  • If you can't find your prior-year TurboTax CD, we'll replace it.
  • If you need to re-download a prior-year version of TurboTax, sign into your account below. (You can download software as many times as needed up to 3 years after purchase.)
  • If all else fails, please see IRS Tax Topic 156 for instructions on requesting a copy of your tax return from the IRS.
