What would you like to do?
Customers frequently need access to their prior-year tax return to obtain their AGI (Adjusted Gross Income) for e-filing or for federal student aid applications.
Which version of TurboTax did you use to prepare your prior-year tax return?
- TurboTax Online
- TurboTax Desktop Software (CD or download)
As long as you completed a prior-year tax return using TurboTax Online, we'll store a PDF copy of your tax return on our secure server, which you can access by logging into your TurboTax account.
Here's the quickest way to get to your prior-tax year PDF file:
- Go to the 2008 tax return page (even if you're not doing a 2008 tax return using TurboTax Online).
- Enter your user ID and password, then click Sign In. (Get help with user ID, password or email.)

- On the Welcome Back screen, click View your returns from prior years.

- If you don't see your prior-year tax return, you may have done your taxes using a different user ID and password. Get help with user ID, password or email.
- If all else fails, please see IRS Tax Topic 156 for instructions on requesting a copy of your tax return from the IRS.
We do not maintain copies of your tax return prepared using TurboTax desktop software, not even if it was e-filed. E-filing does not store tax return data on our servers.
You'll need to search your computer for your tax return file if it was prepared using a desktop version. Follow our instructions for Windows or Macintosh.
Then open your tax return in the same tax-year version of TurboTax (for example, open your 2007 return in TurboTax 2007). If you try to open it in the wrong tax year, you'll get error code 539.
- If you can't find your prior-year TurboTax CD, we'll replace it.
- If you need to re-download a prior-year version of TurboTax, sign into your account below. (You can download software as many times as needed up to 3 years after purchase.)
- If all else fails, please see IRS Tax Topic 156 for instructions on requesting a copy of your tax return from the IRS.
