Important: We do not maintain copies of your tax return prepared using TurboTax desktop software, not even if it was e-filed. E-filing does not store tax return data on our servers.

  1. If you prepared your tax return using TurboTax desktop, search your computer for your tax return file. Follow our help for Windows or Macintosh.
  2. After locating your file on your computer, open your tax return file using the same tax-year version of TurboTax (e.g., open your 2008 return in TurboTax 2008). If you try to open your file using the wrong tax year software, you'll get error code 539.
