Minimum Requirements for Your Computer

For easy tax preparation, make sure your computer meets these standards.

TurboTax for Windows (Download/CD)

Below are the minimum requirements for TurboTax 2009 software installed on a Windows computer. The 2009 versions are EasyStart, Basic, Deluxe, Premier, Home & Business, and Business.

If your computer doesn't meet the software system requirements, you might try TurboTax Online.

Minimum System Requirements

Computer processor 		450 MHz 32-bit (x86) or faster processor
Operating systems Windows XP (32-bit and 64-bit) Home/Media Center Edition/Pro with Service Pack 2 or higher

Windows Vista™ (32-bit and 64-bit) Home Basic/Home Premium/Business/Ultimate

Windows 7(32-bit and 64-bit)

Notes: Administrative rights required to install and run TurboTax.
RAM 256 MB of RAM (512 MB recommended)

Hard Disk Space*

* Must be on the same drive TurboTax is installed on
  • Federal Products: 500 MB for TurboTax (plus up to 620 MB for Microsoft .NET 3.5 SP 1 if not already installed)
  • State Products: 15 MB
  • Federal plus State Products: 500 MB for TurboTax (plus up to 620 MB for Microsoft .NET 3.5 SP1 if not already installed)

    TurboTax for Mac (Download/CD)

    Below are the minimum requirements for TurboTax 2009 software installed on a Mac computer. The TurboTax 2009 versions are Basic, Deluxe, Premier, and Home & Business. (TurboTax Easy Start and Business are not available for the Mac.)

    If your computer doesn't meet the software system requirements, you might try TurboTax Online.

    Below are the minimum requirements for TurboTax Online 2009 using a Web browser on a Windows or Macintosh computer.

    Windows: Pentium or equivalent

    Macintosh: PowerPC G3 and Intel-based processor
    Browsers

    Windows Vista

    • Firefox 2.0, Netscape 9.0, AOL 9.0
    • Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.x or 8.x

    Tip: If you get stuck on the System Compatibility Check screen after signing in to TurboTax Online, but you were able to successfully sign in previously with the same computer and browser, please try signing in later. This issue can be caused by high traffic.
